Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) Visa Ballot Opens Soon for India, China and Vietnam

The Australian Government has announced that registrations for the Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa ballot for the 2026–27 program year will open soon for eligible applicants from India, China and Vietnam.

The ballot registration period will open on 4 June 2026 and close on 25 June 2026. Individuals from these participating countries who wish to apply for their first Work and Holiday visa must first register through the ballot process and be randomly selected before they can lodge a visa application.

What Is the Subclass 462 Visa Ballot?

The Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa allows young adults from eligible countries to experience Australia while working and travelling for up to 12 months.

Due to high demand, Australia uses a ballot (random selection) process for first-time applicants from certain countries, including India, China and Vietnam. Being selected in the ballot provides an opportunity to submit a visa application, but it does not guarantee visa approval.

Applicants must still meet all visa eligibility requirements and provide the required supporting documentation.

Key Dates for the 2026–27 Program Year

  • Ballot registration opens: 4 June 2026

  • Ballot registration closes: 25 June 2026

  • Program year: 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027

Eligible applicants are encouraged to prepare early and ensure they understand the registration process before the ballot opens.

Who Needs to Register?

The ballot process applies to eligible first-time Work and Holiday visa applicants from:

  • India

  • China

  • Vietnam

Applicants who are successfully selected will receive an invitation to lodge a Subclass 462 visa application within the specified timeframe.

How to Prepare Before the Ballot Opens

To avoid last-minute issues, prospective applicants should:

✔ Confirm they meet the age and eligibility requirements

✔ Ensure their passport is valid

✔ Prepare any required supporting documents

✔ Review the latest Work and Holiday visa requirements

✔ Understand the ballot registration process and deadlines

Submitting accurate information during registration is essential to avoid delays or complications later in the process.

Why This Opportunity Is Popular

The Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa is highly sought after because it allows young travellers to:

  • Live in Australia for up to 12 months

  • Work to help fund their travels

  • Explore different regions of Australia

  • Gain international work experience

  • Experience Australia's lifestyle and culture

For many applicants, the visa provides a valuable opportunity to combine work, travel and cultural exchange in one of the world's most popular destinations.
