About the Subclass 482 Visa
The Skills in Demand (TSS) visa, formerly known as the Temporary Skill Shortage visa, enables Australian employers to address labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers from overseas. This visa provides a pathway to temporary residence and can lead to permanent residency.

Visa Streams
The Subclass 482 visa has three streams:
Short-Term Stream
For occupations on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). Valid for up to 2 years (or up to 4 years if International Trade Obligation applies).
Note: This stream does not provide a direct pathway to permanent residency.
Medium-Term Stream
For occupations on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). Valid for up to 4 years with option to renew.
This stream can lead to permanent residency through the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) after 3 years.
Labour Agreement Stream
For workers sponsored through a labour agreement between an employer and the Australian Government. The length of stay varies according to the agreement.
Basic Requirements
- Be nominated by an approved Australian employer
- Have the skills and qualifications for the nominated occupation
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience (unless exempt)
- Meet English language requirements (varies by stream)
- Meet health and character requirements
- Have appropriate skills assessment (if required)
- Hold adequate health insurance
